Catania: Sailing Tour with Aperitivo and Prosecco, at no additional cost

About This Experience

This six-hour sailing excursion departs at 10am from the Catania harbour meeting point on Via Cardinale Dusmet, heading out along what the operator calls the Cyclops Riviera. The boat is sail-powered, and groups are kept small, which makes for a quieter trip than the larger motorised excursions that run along the same stretch of coast. A professional skipper handles the sailing throughout, leaving guests free to relax on deck.

The route passes the Ulysses Caves, the Norman castle at Aci Castello perched on its cliff, and the village of Aci Trezza with its Cyclops Stacks (Faraglioni) offshore. The main stop is at the Faraglione della Madonna, where there's a short guided commentary on the rocks and a chance to swim in the sea around them. The whole stretch of coast is tied to the Ulysses and Cyclops legends that give the area its name.

Throughout the day there's time to sunbathe on deck and take further swimming breaks in clear water along the route. Around midday, the crew serve a substantial aperitif of local products with water and prosecco, taken at anchor with views back towards Mount Etna. Because the group stays small, there's more room to spread out on deck than on the larger sailing tours in the area.

The boat and safety equipment are provided, but a beach towel, sunscreen and any extra food beyond the aperitif are down to you. Groups are kept small by design, and the trip isn't recommended for anyone prone to seasickness, since it runs a full six hours largely under sail. Free cancellation up to 24 hours beforehand makes it easy to change plans if the weather forecast turns.

What Travelers Say

A fantastic day out on the water. The hosts were very friendly, with a lot of information about Sicily and Catania. The boat was also very nice. Perfect for sunbathing 😊 Thanks for a great time!

Luca and Ivan were phenomenal and we were very impressed with how professional and knowledgeable they were. My girlfriend and I were the only two clients for the day so we had an unintentional private tour. What really set our experience apart was how perceptive they are. When my girlfriend and I were quiet and enjoying ourselves they were minding their business and when we were talkative, they were very conversational and hilarious. Luca and Ivan are great tour guides and even better people to hang out with. On top of all that, the aperitivo and prosecco were great. We would 100% book a trip with them again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the tour leave and how long does it run?

The boat departs at 10am from the harbour meeting point on Via Cardinale Dusmet in Catania and returns to the same dock after about six hours, making it one of the longer sailing options in the area.

Do I need to bring my own towel and sunscreen?

Yes. A beach towel and sunscreen aren't included, so bring biodegradable sunscreen along with your own towel and swimwear for the swim breaks along the route. Pack a change of dry clothes too, since you'll be back on deck for several hours afterwards.

Is the aperitif a full meal?

It's described as a hearty aperitif with local products, water and prosecco, served at anchor around midday — filling for a snack, but bring extra food if you want more than that over a six-hour day.

Where exactly do we stop to swim?

The main stop is at the Faraglione della Madonna off Aci Trezza, with a short guided commentary on the rocks before the swim break; the boat also pauses for further swims elsewhere along the route.

Is this trip suitable if I get seasick easily?

The operator specifically flags this tour as unsuitable for people prone to seasickness, given it runs a full six hours largely under sail; a shorter tour may suit better if that's a concern.
